As I write this blog post, rain taps against my office window. The soaked ground from the last few rains has turned the fallen fall leaves into soggy, slippery patches under my feet during morning walks. The days are warm-ish and the nights are cool.
We’re deep into autumn here in my little part of Iowa.
But, one aspect of this transition to winter that has bothered me for years isn’t happening. Seasonal joint pain. Rainy days, stormy weather and temperature fluctuations used to dramatically affect my physical health. A friend just posted a funny meme on Facebook about how her body feels broken — on this overcast, chilly rain day — and for once, I’m not saying “Me too!”
So, I decided it was time for a health update here on my little lifestyle blog.

Ok, So What Did You Do?
If you’re new here, here’s a quick catch-up!
In October 2023, I decided to get a second opinion after working through a year of testing with my primary care physician and a neurologist. I just didn’t feel our “watch and wait” approach to a possible multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis and treatments for severe migraine with a boatload of auras was exactly right.
I trusted my gut and was evaluated by a holistic health practitioner. Long story short, we discovered several issues that could mirror MS and migraine auras, so I buckled down and did 10 months of treatments to cleanse my body and retrain my immune system to recognize specific issues and fight them off.
Here’s How I Feel After Treating Lyme Disease (And More)
Last week I had my annual check-in with my rheumatologist. I explained to her that I have barely any joint pain (unless I overdo my time at the keyboard!) and that I’m, feeling much better than in years past. We discussed my holistic treatments and she’s happy I’m in better health.
In addition to nearly no joint pain, the migraine aura symptoms have simmered down immensely. I rarely have dizzy spells, issues with vertigo, problems walking, leg heaviness and blurred vision. When I do, I can pinpoint a situation that triggered the issue. In the past, it was so often and random that it was hard to know why I felt so terrible most of the time.

So, What’s Next in My Health Journey?
I am still meeting with my holistic doctor. We are working on balancing my hormones as I navigate perimenopause and manage multiple uterine fibroids. We are also doing more treatments for parasites. I’m sure that’s because I spent my summer camping, hiking, gardening, walking my dog and playing in lakes!
I also appreciate her guidance for how to manage everyday health situations like sore throats and colds. These days, I take as much of a natural approach to managing my health issues and healing as possible by using herbal supplements, pacing myself, eating whole foods, fasting and resting to help my body heal.
Until next time,
Choose healthy!
Angela
