Earlier this summer, I attended a yoga class in a park not too far from my house. As I was walking back home, something strange stopped me in my tracks.
A tall wooden skeleton of a tree proudly stood in the front yard of a house just across the street from where I was walking.
I crossed the road and checked it out. It was a Respect Tree, erected in honor of the Aretha Franklin concert being held at the park that evening and the recent ruling to legalize gay marriage in the United States.
So, are you humming R-E-S-P-E-C-T in your head yet?
A bowl of paper leaves sat waiting for people to fill them with their ideas. So, I grabbed one. Off the top of my head I wrote down “Having an open mind!”

I feel if you truly want to respect someone, or a group, you need to listen and learn about them with an open mind before coming to any conclusions. You just never know what you’ll learn.
So, what does respect mean to you? Please share your ideas in the comments below.
Until next time,
