During a recent business trip, I took the time to literally “stop and smell the roses” before launching into a busy work day! I photographed these flowers at Boston Common in June.
Self-care rejuvenates the mind and body.
Even though we know rest, reflection and mindfulness are good for us, it’s hard to carve time from busy days to really slow down and tackle activities that let us fully concentrate on the present.
So, this past week, I’ve been participating in the #30daysofselfcare challenge with Evolve Yoga and Wellness Center and The Wellness Center at Evolve in Sioux City. It’s a Facebook challenge to post each day about how you are celebrating and practicing self-care.
Search the #30daysofselfcare hashtag on Facebook to be inspired!
Evolve shared a chart of ideas to kick start the challenge and today I’m going to dive into ” Write down three things for which you are grateful.”. This is actually a tough challenge because I write gratitude posts often on social media.
So, I’m pushing myself to think more broad and to not focus on individual things or experiences.
- I am grateful for a career that allows me to be creative, help others and contribute to the household expenses.
- I am grateful for each person and pet who has come into my life because they have all taught me something. Whether the lessons were uplifting and positive, or how to endure sadness and pain, we need both spectrums in our lives.
- I am grateful for a small, loving circle of friends and family who bring me joy, listen carefully and open my eyes to the perspectives of others.
Have you thought about what you’re grateful for recently?
You don’t have to participate in a challenge to make time for yourself.
Take this moment, right now, to focus on your breath. Be present.
Until next time,
Choose healthy!
Angela
