Making Fitness Goals for 2016

Making Fitness Goals for 2016

This isn’t another weight-loss new year’s resolution blog post. I’m not trying the shed pounds in 2016.

Instead, I’m looking at a broader focus: my fitness.

In 2016 I want to get stronger. I don’t want to struggle when doing yard work or home improvement projects. I want to be able to lift my aging dogs (80 lbs. and 100 lbs.) onto the bed at night with ease. I don’t want to feel weak.

Since I’ve started doing yoga, my physical strength has increased immensely. But, there’s always room to improve.

In 2016 I’d like to focus on my upper body strength. This means I need to dive into all the poses that focus on shoulder, back and arm strength such as downward facing dog, planking and inversions.

I dream of the day I can do a scorpion pose.

I also want to increase my time on the mat. I adore my group classes at the gym and my rare at-home full practices. But, I am going to try to sneak smaller 10-minute sessions in on lunch breaks, before I get going for the day and before bedtime. (Please help keep me accountable!)

What are your fitness or yoga-related goals for 2016?

And do you have any suggestions for me so I can increase my upper body strength and mat time?

Until next time,
Choose healthy!
