My ears perk up whenever I learn about a new super food.
From aronia berries, to moringa, I love getting my hands on any natural supplements, oils or foods that promise to boost my health. A few weeks ago Seabuck Wonders sent me a sample of their Organic Himalayan Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil and Himalayan Sea Buckthorn Facial Cream.
The company’s line of products feature the oil of Tibetan grown sea buckthorn berries, the fruit of a herb that offers multiple medicinal uses including infection prevention, sight improvement and slowing aging. Sea buckthorn is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and C.
Organic Himalayan Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil: This product is taken orally or topically, using an eyedropper. It’s vegan, kosher and gluten free. The oil claims to be beneficial for cell membrane nurturing, skin health, liver health and gastrointestinal health. The recommended daily dosage is 1-2ml. Since the oil can interfere with blood clotting, talk to your doctor to make sure it’s a good fit for your health needs.
I tried the oil orally, using the eyedropper included in the bottle. The oil has a very dry, heavy taste. I think it’d be better mixed in a vinaigrette salad dressing to lighten and mask the flavor. After only a few doses, I can’t tell if it’s boosted my health, but I definitely don’t feel any worse!
Himalayan Sea Buckthorn Facial Cream: I have sensitive skin. I’m careful about using natural mineral-based makeup and facial cleaners free of any artificial fragrances or dyes. So, when I tried this new cream, I started by reading the label closely. I was thrilled to learn that it’s naturally scented with essential orange oil, paraben free, vegan and gluten free.
The orange-colored cream is thick and glides on smooth. I like the light orange fragrance, which makes the oil’s scent less noticeable. After washing my face and then applying the cream, my skin immediately felt soft and moisturized. Some skin-care products leave your skin feeling tight or tingly, and thankfully, this does not. After several uses, I haven’t experienced any skin irritation, and my skin looks clear and healthy.
Have you ever tried any sea buckthorn products? Tell me about your experiences in the comments below.
Until next time,
PS: Starting this week, I will go back to posting on the blog once a week on Tuesdays. Don’t forget to visit me daily on Facebook!
