One of my writing assignments this week includes digging into the behind-the-scenes corporate culture at some huge companies. HubSpot. Adobe. Google. How do they keep their employees so happy and productive?
They offer them lots of cool stuff. Did you know:
- Adobe employees get the entire months of July and December off work?
- HubSpot employees get unlimited free Amazon Kindle book downloads?
- Intuit employees can visit an onsite massage therapist during the workday?
So, even though my small business is just me, I think it’s time to start adopting some ideas from the big guys. Why not? I could use a break from six-day work weeks and “sneaking a few hours of work in after dinner” to get more energized and boost productivity.

I consider my slippers-all-day policy pretty wonderful and enjoy lunch breaks with my puppies in the backyard — I mean, the company’s outdoor green space.
