Back to Blogging Basics

Remember when blogging started?

Originally called web logs, “blogs” were essentially online diaries. People shared their thoughts, ideas and tips with the world.

Today, blogs are more polished, professional and written by everyone from mommies to corporations. Blogs are used to share stories, explain how to do things, educate readers and help people unwind. Blogs can be whatever you want them to be, really.

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links or advertisements. I earn a small commission if you shop through them, which helps fund this website so I can continue to bring you amazing content. All opinions are my own.

Since I spend my days blogging professionally, this little corner of the web is my after-hours digital playground.

On Cupcakes and Yoga pants you can expect to see a variety of posts — from recipes and photos, to helpful tips and random thoughts.

So, why is this blog called Cupcakes and Yoga Pants?

Those things sum up my life. I try to make healthy decisions daily. I’m a vegetarian, I buy organic food when I can afford it, I avoid synthetic chemicals, donate to animal rescue groups and help turtles cross the road.

But, I’m not perfect. Far from it.

While I may eat kale regularly and actually crave Brussels sprouts on occasion, I’m also addicted to sweets. And, pizza.

Sometimes I dream about cupcakes, make cookie dough for dinner or eat pie for breakfast. Hey, why not? If you enjoy sweets in moderation, there’s nothing wrong with indulging.

So, that’s it.

I hope you’ll visit Cupcakes and Yoga Pants often and join me as I ramble on about my imperfect, healthy life. You might learn a tip or two, or get inspired to try something new. Or, just burst out laughing.

If one of my posts brings a smile to your face, drop me a note and let me know!

Until next time,
Choose healthy!

Blogging has indeed become more polished as the content and style has adapted to meet the demands of the readers. I find the biggest problems personally trying to find the right sites for my content, since I tend to write about a myriad of topics and therefore unless my blog is a diary, writing frequently enough to keep readers interested in each of the topics if they were separate blogs is a hard task.

Biggest problem for me is finding the time to write these days, especially having a full time job as well. It’s that and also finding pictures to add to posts, since although I may have images for some, I don’t for others, and readers as well as the templates for blogs now all demand that each post has at least 1 image.

Blogging has definitely become something where you need to give enough time and dedication to it, or fall by the wayside.

Hi Tony, Thanks for visiting and commenting! Yes, Cupcakes and Yoga Pants is more of an online diary and fun writing for me — since I spend my days writing copy for clients. This is where I get to write exactly what I want! And yes, making time for it is tough. It seems like evenings and weekends are when I take the time to write posts. I also sneak some in on lunch breaks. To address your concern about photos, I’m a shutter bug, so I usually have photos before the post is even written! Get into the habit of taking pictures of everything, so you have more to work with. Or, scout out some favorite stock photo sites! I love Flickr! Have a great day!~ Angela
