Seeing is believing. A major overhaul of my diet and outlook on nutrition is finally making a rash of six months heal.
Last October I noticed a few patches of red, rashy skin on my legs pop up. I figured the whirlpool at the gym was a little dirty or I caught something from the swimming pool, since I take a dip three to four days each week.

Eczema on my right leg on March 6, 2017.

After avoiding the water for a few weeks and applying every topical skin cream I could get my hands on, the rash lingered.
So, I visited with my dermatologist.
She quickly diagnosed the skin irritation as eczema. She told me to start moisturizing with CeraVe skin cream twice each day and to use a prescription-level topical steroid cream. I did all that. The rash started popping up in new places and my all-over itchy skin was getting unbearable.
At the start of March, I decided to try the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP). This clean-eating program is used to heal the gut and identify foods that trigger flare-ups for people with autoimmune conditions, including eczema.

The Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) is based on eating healthy, whole foods. I’ve cut out dairy, grains, processed foods and nightshade vegetables.
I’m on day 17 of the food elimination phase of the AIP, and am proud to say my skin is finally clearing. The overall body itch is also diminishing. I’m still using CeraVe, jojoba oil and coconut oil to moisturize my skin and Epsom salt and baking soda baths to soothe the itch.

For the first time in six months, the red eczema sores are starting to lighten and go away!
I’m honestly shocked at how much food can change the health of my skin. My face also looks brighter and healthier. And I just feel so much better overall with fewer RA flares and less digestive problems related to Celiac Disease.
I’m posting AIP updates on the Cupcakes and Yoga Pants Facebook page daily. See what I’m up to today!
Until next time,
Choose healthy!

That’s Awesome!!!
Thank you!
Hi
My son has been having skin issues for the past 6 months and it could be eczema, one doc said the other one said food allergy or psoriasis or fungal lol we don’t know for sure what iit is
He is 30, he never had any issues before. We started aip but in 3 weeks he got tired and then this month we started aip again, he eats mostly meat, cassava sweet potatoes plaintian
Little vegetable, and fresh coconut, coconut milk from fresh coconut (homemade) and some fruit, but still itches and has red spots mainly on back and legs,
Could coconut be the culprit, we live in tropics and he has grown eating fresh coconut and foods coooked in coconut milk daily
It’s been 3 weeks on diet he wants to now start eat normal again as it’s not practical due to his travel for work,
Is there an easier way to do aip?
Any other suggestion ?
Do you think allergy tests are reliable & can provide answers to what’s particularly causing allergy ?
Hi JM, I’m sorry to hear about your son’s challenges with his skin. I think it would be wise to visit with a dermatologist and/or an allergist/immunologist. Both can provide skin testing to help narrow the TYPE of eczema your son has, so then you can find the right treatment. Or, if it’s an allergy, learn which allergens are affecting him. As far as the API, maybe he can do a modified version while he travels. Stick to whole foods, and no sugar/dairy/processed foods. Good luck! ~ Angela
