Last week I did something I haven’t done since pandemic isolation. I took an online yoga class.
My alarm went off at 6:00 am, I rolled out of bed and was on my yoga mat – in my living room – by 6:15 am. My local yoga studio is offering a gentle, 40-minute practice two mornings a week through their online system.
And I have to say – I think I love it. Here’s why.

5 Reasons I’m Enjoying Yoga at Home
Don’t get me wrong. Waking up early isn’t always easy, but when you have something enjoyable to look forward to within the first half hour of your day, it makes it much easier.
And, doing yoga at home has a few perks.
1. You don’t have to travel to the yoga studio.
Winter has arrived in my little corner of Iowa, which means bundling up each time I want to leave the house. I don’t mind, but a trip to the yoga studio includes layering sweatpants over my yoga pants, going outside for a tiny bit and possibly navigating snowy roads. Yuck.
I’ve decided to check the studio’s schedule to learn more about the hybrid classes offered at home and in-studio, at least during the cold months!
2. You can create your perfect environment.
When I do yoga at home, I set it up like my own little mini studio.
I had a few candles lit and palo santo burning during that early morning session. I had all my props handy, my favorite thick yoga mat rolled out and a mug of hot tea on the coffee table next to me. It was cozy!

3. You can dress in whatever you want.
I basically live in yoga pants, so I don’t mind wearing athletic clothes to classes at the studio. However, when doing a practice at 6:20am, I wasn’t even dressed for the day yet. So, I wore my sweatpants that I slept in, tossed my hair back into a ponytail and got ready for the day — after the class.
4. I can move, modify and pause as needed.
Of course you can modify your yoga practice in-studio, but at home it just feels a tiny bit more accessible and acceptable. I found myself lingering in certain poses a bit longer and using nearby pillows for extra support because – why not?
5. It fits into my day easier.
I am most creative and productive working in the mornings. So, I protect those hours mindfully. This means the majority of my in-studio yoga practice happens in the evenings.
But, this online class slipped into my schedule easily because it was shorter than a standard class, I didn’t have to budget time to travel to the studio and I was able to get back into my morning tasks the moment after I logged off. Easy!

Doing Your Yoga Practice at Home
Have you tried online yoga classes? Do you enjoy them? Of course, I love the supportive community and relaxing ambiance of going to yoga classes in person. However, sometimes, doing a yoga class at home online just makes sense.
Until next time,
Choose healthy!
